It was an evening to honor the best in the Northern Ohio union construction industry, as the area’s top journeymen, apprentices and contractors gathered Aug. 20 at Cleveland Browns Stadium for the annual Building Excellence and Craftsmanship Awards.

Presented by the Construction Employers Association of Cleveland (CEA), in partnership with the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council, the annual event celebrates the exceptional achievements, hands-on skill and dedication of local union construction tradesmen, tradeswomen and the contractors who employ them.

The evening began with a cocktail and networking reception before the awards presentation began.

Jay Edwards, the Republican candidate for State of Ohio Treasurer, was the keynote speaker. Edwards is endorsed by Affiliated Construction Trades (ACT) Ohio. He previously served as a state representative in the Ohio House of Representatives for the 94th district.

Following Edward’s speech, CBCTC Executive Secretary/Business Manager Dave Wondolowski handed out the Apprentice of the Year awards.

Cuyahoga County Council District 5 member Mike Gallagher followed to present the Craftsmanship Awards.

A video introduced each individual Craftsmanship award and discussed the challenges faced on each project and explained how the challenges were overcome.

Glen Shumate, Executive Vice President of the Construction Employers Association, handed out the Building Excellence Awards to the contractors.

Congratulations to all who were honored at the industry’s premier event in Northeast Ohio.
