Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary Dave Wondolowski discussed the results of the 2018 midterm elections during his monthly appearance on America’s Work Force Radio.
Wondolowski, who also serves on the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, told AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc Cuyahoga County experienced a 54 percent voter turnout, which he called historic. The
high turnout benefitted local Democrats, who performed very well, he said.
Despite high voter turnout, Democrats did not win any statewide offices, but did win two seats on Ohio’s Supreme Court. These victories though, will not tilt the court left, as it remains heavily Republican.
Across Ohio building trades endorsed state legislative candidates performed well, helping the trades retain a bi-partisan building trades majority in the General Assembly. Wondolowski hopes this coalition will help fight attacks on issues important to the building trades such as Prevailing Wage.
