The Cleveland Building Trades Tradeswomen Committee will host an apprenticeship fair open to the public to help educate and recruit people to consider starting a career with one of its affiliated construction trades unions.
The Career Fair will take place on May 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pipefitters Local 120 Union Hall, 6305 Halle Drive in Cleveland.
Men and women, regardless of race or ethnicity, who are interested in learning more about the great career opportunities available through the registered apprenticeship programs offered by area unions are urged to attend.
Due to the growing economy, the construction boom to rebuild Northeast Ohio and the retirement of the Baby Boomer generation, there is a major need for highly trained and highly skilled construction workers.
“This career fair is a chance for anyone interested in working in construction to speak directly with individuals who already have careers in the field,” said Doreen Cannon, President of Plumbers Local 55 and President of the Cleveland Building Trades Tradeswomen Committee.
“Union construction apprenticeship programs provide an excellent alternative to college by providing men and women a direct path to the middle-class lifestyle by letting them earn while they learn.”
High school seniors and college students are also urged to attend the event in order to learn how apprentices work on construction sites during the day, where they receive a livable wage, while earning excellent health and retirement benefits. Apprentices also receive mandatory classroom education, where they learn additional skills needed to perform their jobs, including receiving industry leading OSHA safety training.
Representatives from 13 building trades will be on-hand to not only talk about the work they do, but also the apprenticeship process and how it can lead to a variety of opportunities within the industries.
Anyone interested in learning more about starting a rewarding career in the building trades is urged to attend this event. Current affiliated members of the Cleveland Building Trades are encouraged to spread the word to anyone who might be interested.
